The 2023 US Darts Masters will take place from June 2-3 at Madison Square Garden, New York. The World Series of Darts event will see some of the biggest names in the sport grace this famous arena.
The prize pool for this tournament is $74,850 (£60k). The winner will take home $24,950 while the runner-up will win $12,475.
Our Picks:
Dimitri van den Bergh @11/10 vs Rob Cross
Love van den Bergh here, and absolutely love that he’s a small dog in this one.
Don’t have a ton of analysis here. The DreamMaker, van den Bergh, is on his way up in the world of darts. Voltage Rob Cross is an OG, a former world champ at that, is an incredible player.
Van den Bergh is simply currently better than Cross. Two of the worlds best, but we like the young up n comer a lot here.. We feel very good about Dimi to win this one and love the + odds.
Other Picks:
Price and MVG are the safest picks. It would take either of them to have a bad game or their opponent to play out of their mind for them to lose.
Michael Smith is way too inconsistent right now to justify his price. Peter Wright is almost a non factor at this point outside of random one game outbursts.
Best play outside of the top 2 is a toss up between Aspinall and Humphries. Both are relatively consistent with their scoring, it just comes down to doubling.
Aspinall and Humphries are both excellent value, it’s a toss up for who is favorite among the top 3. Gerwyn Price was playing on another level these past couple months, MVG is the best player when he’s on his A game. Smith defending his title.
Explained:
In professional darts matches (501 rules) each player takes turns throwing 3 darts to reduce their score to 0. Whoever does first wins the leg and first to X legs wins the match. The outer ring of the board (red/green coloring) is worth double the score. So if you land on the outer ring of the 20, you will score 40 instead.
In order to win a leg of darts you must end on a double. So if you need 20, double 10 is what you would target. Doubling is just the term for throwing the winning dart of a leg. So on occasion you’ll see a player that outscored their opponent but lost the match because they weren’t able to finish legs off and their opponent was able to consistently. It’s a little hard to explain without visual examples.
