Merseyside Derby
Premier League Soccer

The Merseyside derby is the football matches between Everton and Liverpool, the two primary clubs in Liverpool, England. Named after the county of Merseyside, in which Liverpool is located, it is the longest running top-flight derby in England and has been played continuously since the 1962–63 season.

Liverpool vs Everton, 8pm GMT

Everton will make the short trip across Stanley Park to face Liverpool at Anfield in the second Merseyside Derby of the season on Monday night. There has been very little for both clubs to get excited about this season, so this fixture could represent a springboard to kickstart one side’s campaign.

Some might make Everton slight favourites here but we think Liverpool will edge it.

Our Picks:

Liverpool Win @13/20

Liverpool Win and Both Teams To Score @9/4

Gakpo to Score anytime @2/1

Everton are currently in 18th place in the Premier League standings and have struggled to cope with their league opponents this season. The Toffees edged Arsenal to a crucial 1-0 victory in their previous game and will look to achieve a similar result this weekend.

Liverpool, on the other hand, are in 10th place in the league table at the moment and have not been at their best this season. The Merseyside giants slumped to a 3-0 defeat at the hands of Wolverhampton Wanderers last week and will need to bounce back in this fixture. Jurgen Klopp’s charges have flattered to deceive in the Premier League and will need to prove their mettle in the Merseyside derby.

Everton showed plenty of heart against Arsenal and have already shown signs of improvement under Sean Dyche. Liverpool are the better team on paper, however, and should be able to win this game.

Liverpool have a good historical record in the Merseyside derby and have won 123 out of the 292 matches played between the two teams, as opposed to Everton’s 83 victories.

Team News:

Some positive news for Liverpool is that Diogo Jota is set to be named in the squad after a lengthy injury lay-off. Brazilian duo Roberto Firmino and Arthur are both back in full training too, but a start looks unlikely at this stage.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin is not expected to be fit enough to feature here for Everton after the striker was taken off on the hour mark last weekend. James Garner and Andros Townsend are not ready yet after long-term injuries while defensive pair Nathan Patterson and Michael Keane remain out.

Liverpool predicted starting 11:
Alisson; Alexander-Arnold, Gomez, Matip, Robertson; Henderson, Fabinho, Bajcetic; Salah, Nunez, Gakpo

Everton predicted starting 11:
Pickford; Coleman, Coady, Tarkowski, Mykolenko; Iwobi, Onana, Gueye, Doucoure, McNeil; Maupay
