Day 11 Picks: – Women

Aryna Sabalenka vs Magda Linette – Dog of the Round.

Picks:

Linette ML @4/1

Over 20.5 Games @10/11

It has been some tournament for Linette. Good enough that, although she is certainly the under dog here, it’s not unthinkable that she could walk away the winner. For one thing, Sabalenka does have form for losing exactly this sort of match. Remember the 2021 US Open, anyone? That said, the Belarusian has looked a different player so far this Australian Open.

The work she has done on her serve, particularly her previously erratic second delivery, looks to be paying off. She also looks to have much better conviction generally and it will surely have helped her confidence to score just her second winning in seven meetings with Vekic. Linette has scored enough upsets that she will be full of belief herself and she has proven a very tricky player to put away. But with Sabalenka striking the ball this cleanly, could we see Linette’s dream run continuing?

Victoria Azarenka vs Elena Ryabkina

Picks:

Ryabkina ML @4/9

Ryabkina 2-0 @5/4

This promises to be a thrilling match. Both women have excelled so far at the Australian Open and, whilst the occasion will be momentous, both have the experience of Grand Slam success behind them. Rybakina’s is more recent, but Azarenka’s is more extensive. But as well as both women have played, this fortnight and in the past, it’s hard to look past Rybakina as the favorite.

The Kazakh has the better serve and more power off the ground. Azarenka moves better and returns better, but her advantages in those areas are slighter than in the areas where Rybakina has the edge. There probably won’t be much in it, but that should actually end up making Rybakina’s narrow advantages more significant, especially because she back herself to swing freely when it matters most.
