The Australian Open is a tennis tournament held annually at Melbourne Park in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. The tournament is the first of the four Grand Slam tennis events held each year, preceding the French Open, Wimbledon, and the US Open.

We will post daily picks through out the tournament, so be sure to check back daily.

Day 5 Picks:

Jannik Sinner vs Marton Fucsovics – Over 31.5 Games @5/6

Sinner has looked sharp so far in Melbourne, with the relatively slow courts allied with a very true bounce giving him plenty of time to unleash off the ground, particularly off the forehand side. Fucsovics has a solid record in Australia and some power of his own, but he is not going to win a firefight with the Italian and does not cover the court well enough to grind Sinner down either.

Daniil Medvedev ML @1/5 vs Sebastian Korda

One of the most exciting matches of the day. Medvedev has been a man on a mission so far in Melbourne, not dropping a set against Marcos Giron or John Millman. After making back-to-back finals here, the draw has opened up for the Russian with Rafael Nadal now out of his quarter. Adelaide finalist Korda has also performed well so far and will be Medvedev’s toughest test by far. The pair faced off at the Paris Masters in 2021 where Medvedev won from a set down. We see Medvedev winning here again.

Denis Shapovalov ML @10/11 vs Hubert Hurkacz

This may well turn out to be one of the matches of the third round. Both men can be inconsistent, but have also both gone deep at a Major, and appear to be enjoying the conditions at the Australian Open. The slow court surface might just favour the Canadian though, giving him plenty of time to wind up his forehand, though he will need to return well off the backhand side.

Frances Tiafoe ML @10/11 vs Karen Khachanov

After an undefeated run at the United Cup (albeit as the No. 2 men’s player), Tiafoe has looked good in Melbourne too. The American dropped a set to Daniel Altmaier in his opener but was solid against rising star Juncheng Shang in the second round. Khachanov has had a more mixed start to the season, coming into Melbourne 3-2 before wins against Bernabe Zapata Miralles and Jason Kubler. The Russian has won both of their previous meetings, both in the third round at Wimbledon. We see a big battle here with Tiafoe coming out the winner.

Cameron Norrie  ML @1/3 vs Jiri Lehecka

In some respects, this would be a statement win for both, albeit more so for Lehecka. The Czech has impressed so far at the Australian Open, scoring comfortable wins over Borna Coric and the big-serving Christopher Eubanks. Norrie, however, will present a rather sterner challenge. Lehecka, if he plays his very best tennis, has enough to win this match, but Norrie looks the likelier victor.

Victoria Azarenka vs Madison Keys – Over 22.5 Games @10/11

Azarenka is flying under the radar, but the two-time champion is still capable of playing excellent tennis on her day. The return is perhaps her best shot and it will come in handy here against the erratic Keys. Could be fireworks if they both deliver.

Iga Swiatek 2-0 @2/11 vs Cristina Bucsa

Bucsa’s upset of Andreescu was fun, especially as she saved a match point, but it also makes this match slightly less interesting. The Spaniard will probably push Swiatek more than Osorio did, but the World No. 1 should find a way to progress here with relative ease.

Coco Gauff 2-0 @8/15 vs Bernarda Pera

Pera likes to keep opponents in the backhand corner with that lefty topspin forehand, but this is not a valid tactic against Gauff. The American should be pretty happy that Zheng lost in the previous round, because this is a much more pleasant matchup.
