Grand Slam #1
The Australian Open is a tennis tournament held annually at Melbourne Park in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. The tournament is the first of the four Grand Slam tennis events held each year, preceding the French Open, Wimbledon, and the US Open.
We will post daily picks through out the tournament, so be sure to check back daily.
Day 4 Picks:
Alexander Zverev ML @1/5 vs Michael Mmoh
Mmoh could potentially be licking his lips at this match; there is not a better time to play Zverev. The German is on the comeback trail and needed 5 sets to get through Varillas. However we think he may have needed that to dust off the cobwebs.
Holger Rune ML @1/6 vs Maxime Cressy
This should be such a fun match. Well, every Cressy match is a fun match. Holger Rune has really shown a breakthrough in the last six months. Is that enough to handle the weirdness of Cressy? We will say yes.
Andrey Rublev 3-0 @5/4 vs Emil Ruusuvuori
Rublev’s form was a question mark coming into this tournament, but he had plenty of answers in the first round. Unless his level drops, Ruusuvuori won’t have a chance.
Andy Murray ML @11/8 vs Thanasi Kokkinakis
Andy Murray looked spectacular early in his first match, then he showed his trademark grit to grind out a difficult win over #13 seed Matteo Berrettini. Assuming his body has recovered enough in two days (not a safe assumption with him nowadays), he shouldn’t struggle with Thanasi Kokkinakis, who presents a similar matchup.
Novak Djokovic 3-0 @2/9 vs Enzo Couacaud
A great occasion for Couacaud to be a part of. However, Djokovic is looking somewhat of an unstoppable force at the moment. We would be surprised if this game last longer than two hours. Expect a dominant display from the Serbian.
Yulia Putintseva vs Karolina Pliskova ML @4/9
Pliskova has fallen far from her peak level, but she looked pretty good in her opening match. Putintseva’s game can really frustrate the Czech, but the Kazakh isn’t at her best right now, either.
Lauren Davis ML @11/10 vs Elise Mertens
Lauren Davis has found a rich vein of form of late and comes into this match having won her lats eight, dropping just one set in the process. Will she be able to spring an upset here? It’s not unthinkable by any stretch of the imagination with Elise Mertens in indifferent form.
Aryna Sabalenka vs Shelby Rogers – Over 20.5 Games @5/6
Sabalenka looks like a contender to win the event, but Rogers is known for her ability to produce upsets like this. She’s never easy to play against a Grand Slam, although it does seem like the Belarusian should now be at a stage where she pushes through matches like that consistently.
