Picks:
Over 2.5 Goals @8/11
Barca Win and Both Teams To Score @3/1
One of the biggest fixtures on the football calendar will take place in Saudi Arabia on Sunday night, as Real Madrid face bitter rivals Barcelona in the final of the Spanish Super Cup.
Real Madrid beat Valencia on penalties in the competition’s first semi-final on Wednesday, while Barcelona also required a penalty shootout to advance, overcoming Real Betis on Thursday to set up El Clasico.
Madrid have made the final for the third time since the 2019-20 edition. They have lifted the trophy in their previous two appearances in the final and will look to retain the title.
Barcelona, meanwhile, are in the final for the second time in three seasons. They lost 3-2 in the final of the 2020-21 edition against Athletic Bilbao and will look to make amends this time.
Barcelona are the most successful side in this competition, but they have not lifted the trophy since 2018, losing in the final of the 2020-21 Spanish Super Cup to Athletic Bilbao.
Like Real Madrid, Xavi’s side will believe that they have bigger fish to fry this season, as they are also still in the Copa del Rey, preparing to face Ceuta in the round of 16 next week, while as mentioned, Blaugrana have a three-point lead over Real Madrid at the top of La Liga.
But with no Champions League for Barca in the second half of the season this would be a welcomed trophy and a small brag over there bitter rivals.
Head to Head
The two arch-rivals have locked horns 250 times in competitive games and 34 times in exhibition games. Madrid enjoy a narrow 102-97 lead in wins.
This will be the second edition of El Clasico this season, with Real Madrid recording a 3-1 win in La Liga in October.
They met in the semifinals of the Supercopa last season. The game went into extra time, where Madrid secured a hard-fought win.
The last six meetings between the two teams have produced over 2.5 goals.
