Game Of The Day –

Darius Labanauskas vs John O’Shea

Labanauskas Win @4/5

Interesting yesterday, as reports of RVB food poisoning surfacing one hour before the match, causing the odds to shift massively towards Meikle. That was no bother for Barney, he dropped the first and then scorches the next three to take it 3-1.

We are honestly confused as to why the line on this match is even, but think there may be a couple reasons why:

First off is that Darius quite frankly has not had a great 2022 campaign, especially after his 2021 season. Last year, Lucky D reached one quarter final and one semi final out of the 30 ranked Players Championships tour card holders compete in. This year, however, his best finish were two final 16s. When you look at his matchups though, a vast majority of his defeats came from absolute world beaters, players in the world top 20. Not making excuses for our guy, but we think his 2022 season is actually better than it appears on paper.

Secondly, is that Darius actually lost 4-6 to O’Shea last month in Players Championship 30. Nothing else to say about this; it happened, but these things in darts. And that stretch of the season does not appear to be Labanauskas finest.

O’Shea is a world championship debutante this year, making his first appearance on the Ally Pally stage. And despite holding a PDC tour card between 2010-2014, O’Shea was absent from the PDC tour only until returning this year. In his most recent major performance, this years Player Championship finals, O’Shea got whitewashed 0-6 by Jonny Clayton, going 0/7 in doubles in that match.

Happy to take Lucky D at (-110) here, but expecting a potentially close battle. Likely to come down to who can perform in the critical legs/critical moments, and I definitely favor Darius in those spots.
