Josh Warrington vs Luis Alberto Lopez, 10.15pm GMT

IBF featherweight king Josh Warrington returns to the city of Leeds, facing Mexico’s Luis Alberto Lopez at the First Direct Arena. The bout marks a first title defense for Warrington, who stole the strap from Kiko Martinez back in March.

Our Picks:

Warrington Win @8/11

Value Bet:

Warrington via TKO, KO or DQ @8/1

Warrington normally comes into these fights playing the long game but against an opponent like Lopez this may change. Lopez is a huge hitter and as the saying goes its better to fight fire with fire and were looking forwards to an explosive encounter.

With unification fights in his sights, Warrington knows he cannot afford a slip-up.

Warrington will look to fight in the U.S after Saturday, and hopes to end the year on a high after a hugely disappointing 2021.

The Leeds Warrior vacated his IBF title in January last year before losing for the first time as a pro a month later when he was brutally stopped by Mauricio Lara. A rematch with Lara soon followed but the bout ended in a draw following a head clash which left the Mexican unable to continue.

Despite bouncing back and beating Martinez in impressive fashion earlier this year to regain the IBF title, Warrington (31-1-1) admits he has learned the hard way about misjudging an opponent.

And that’s what makes tonight’s fight all the more important with Lopez boasting an impressive record of 26-2 and a lot of them coming via KO, TKO (15) so Josh will have to bring his best game.
