In terms of scoring chances and expected goals, the Hurricanes have outperformed their opponents by a wider margin than the Lightning have so far this season. Good value here as Tampa’s top defenseman Victor Hedman isn’t expected to play tonight.
Washington Capitals vs. Detroit Red Wings ML @ 2.00
Washington is dealing with a ton of injuries and will be icing a depleted line-up tonight. They haven’t had top-six forwards Nicklas Backstrom and Tom Wilson all season, but they recently lost two more top-six forwards in T.J. Oshie and Connor Brown – as well as top defenseman John Carlson. Detroit’s overall record doesn’t look great, but they’ve played well in front of goaltender Ville Husso (3-1-1; 2.40 GAA & .926 SV%), who’s expected to start tonight.
Edmonton Oilers vs. New Jersey Devils ML @ 2.35
Two teams with identical records, but the Devils have had the stronger start based on expected goals and scoring chances. Goaltending was an issue for New Jersey early in the season, but Vitek Vanecek has quietly won his last three starts, posting a 1.20 GAA and .944 save percentage in the process.
Winnipeg Jets vs. Montreal Canadiens ML @ 2.75
Think this matchup is closer than the odds suggest, especially since the Jets are without one of their top forwards Nikolaj Ehlers, and the Habs may be getting top-4 defenseman Joel Edmundson back tonight.
St. Louis Blues vs. New York Islanders ML @ 2.00
Islanders are in good form, having won four games in a row, while Blues are in bad form, having lost five in a row. The Blues’ forwards are lacking confidence right now and they’ll be in tough against Islanders netminder Ilya Sorokin – one of the best goalies in the league.
