All-Star Max Fried faces a Poverty Pirates offense which ranks 29th in the MLB in team hits per game and 28th in runs per game. The best Pittsburgh could counter with is measly JT Brubaker. This game shouldn’t be competitive.
Don’t let his last performance against the Red Sox fool you – Brubaker’s xERA (4.24) is slightly worse than his already-meh ERA (4.19), and there’s little suggesting his production is going to see any sort of upturn.
Dodgers ML (-145) vs Milwaukee Brewers
The Dodgers score nearly a run per game more than the Brewers on average. Tony Gonsolin is pitching for the Dodgers, and he has a WHIP of 0.86 and an ERA of 2.12. His last outing was against the Brewers just last week where he pitched 7 shutout innings, only giving up 2 hits and 1 walk while striking out 8. He had a run of 3 below average outings last month to bring his ERA out of the absolute ridiculous range into the merely amazing range, but has settled down since with 3 solid starts in a row for August.
On the mound for the Brewers is their ace Corbin Burnes whose last start was against the Dodgers. He managed a win, but unlike Gonsolin’s performance against the Brewers, Burnes didn’t look untouchable. He gave up 6 hits and 2 walks in 5 2/3 innings and generated relatively few ground balls compared to fly balls.
