It’s a battle of NL opposites in the Big Apple as the New York Mets (56-34, 1st NL East) host the freezing-cold Chicago Cubs (34-55, 4th NL Central) on Friday afternoon.
The Chicago Cubs have lost their last seven games, including a 8-0 loss at the hands of the Mets on Thursday. During this stretch, they have lost by multiple runs in six of the seven games. Chicago is at a significant disadvantage on the mound in this game – the Cubs’ Marcus Stroman (2-5, 4.91 ERA, 1.19 WHIP) is nowhere near as good as Mets’ ace Taijuan Walker (7-2, 2.63 ERA, 1.10 WHIP).
The Mets have a better offense than the Cubs as well. NYM ranks 4th in scoring offense, 6th in team hits per game, and 5th in team strikeout rate. Conversely, Chicago ranks 16th in scoring offense, 12th in team hits, and 25th in strikeout rate. Taijuan Walker has fared well against better offenses than the Cubs. Look for the Mets to take care of business in this one.
