Grand Slam #1

The Australian Open is a tennis tournament held annually at Melbourne Park in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. The tournament is the first of the four Grand Slam tennis events held each year, preceding the French Open, Wimbledon, and the US Open.

We will post daily picks through out the tournament, so be sure to check back daily.

Our Picks:

Arthur Cazaux vs Hubert Hurkacz

Pick: Cazaux ML @12/5

It has been a tournament full of surprises, but Arthur Cazaux’s journey to the fourth round as a wildcard could be the biggest of them all. He outplayed Holger Rune in the second round and then absolutely demolished Tallon Griekspoor in the third round. This will come down to fine margins. Cazaux has a great serve, while Hubert Hurkacz probably possesses the best serve in tennis right now. But something is telling me that the Frenchman will somehow find a way to continue his dream run.

Nuno Borges vs Daniil Medvedev

Pick: Medvedev 3-0 @1/2

Nuno Borges’ run is another incredible story at the Australian Open this year. He held his nerve better in the big moments to upset Grigor Dimitrov in the third round. However, we think his run ends here. Daniil Medvedev was very impressive against Felix Auger-Aliassime, and he is likely to stifle the Portuguese throughout.

Alexander Zverev vs Cameron Norrie

Pick: Over 38.5 Games @10/11

Even though Zverev has never conceded a set to Norrie in four matches, this will be a feisty encounter. Both players will come into this match with confidence after decisive wins in the third round. Norrie was excellent against Casper Ruud, but he’ll still have to up his game to challenge the German who seems to be improving with every match. Zverev has the weapons to trouble his opponent and while he may concede a set.

Miomir Kecmanovic vs Carlos Alcaraz

Pick: Alcaraz -8.5 @10/11

Jordan: Miomir Kecmanovic will probably feel he can overcome any odds right now. He saved two match points in the second round, and then did the same against Tommy Paul in the round of 32. Yet, it will need a Herculean effort against the world #2. We do not see enough in the Kecmanovic game to really hurt Carlos Alcaraz, and the Serbian’s strong run will end at the hands of the two-time Grand Slam champion.

Linda Noskova vs Elina Svitolina

Pick: Svitolina ML @8/13

Jordan: This is an utterly fascinating matchup. Elina Svitolina is playing the best tennis of her life. She has added aggression to the grit she possessed, and we consider her a real contender for the title. But if Linda Noskova serves as she did against Iga Swiatek, another memorable victory is possible. My instinct is telling me that it will be hard for Noskova to produce that level again, and that Svitolina’s level is not going to drop.

Zheng Qinwen vs Oceane Dodin

Pick: Over 20.5 games @10/11

Dodin returned to the top 100 at the end of last year and she gets her best-ever Slam run almost right away. The Frenchwoman’s power-hitting style often leaves the opponent as basically an extra, watching her hit winners or unforced errors. Zheng has struggled when the first strike is taken away from her in the past, but it seems like she’s getting a bit closer to being a consistent force at the top. Dodin will need another peak showing to win here.

Jasmine Paolini vs Anna Kalinskaya

Pick: Kalinskaya ML @4/6

Kalinskaya’s showing against Sloane Stephens was unbelievable, after dropping the opening set she started hitting even harder and making virtually no errors. That’s how well she’s been playing the past few months, going 16-3 in her last 19 matches. Paolini deserves a lot of credit for her recent work too. She earned herself a great career-high ranking, but the upside of the Russian is much higher in an individual match.

Victoria Azarenka vs Dayana Yastremska

Pick: Azarenka ML @1/3

Dayana Yastremska should not be ruled out here here. Her performances as a qualifier have been exceptional, and if she keeps hitting the ball as cleanly as she has, another win is possible. But were backing the two-time Australian Open champion. The way Victoria Azarenka disarmed the dangerous Lesia Tsurenko was very impressive, and she loves the conditions in Melbourne.
