DateAug 29– Sept 1st, 2024

This week marks the culmination of the golf season with the highly anticipated Tour Championship, the ultimate event where the victor will walk away with a prize reminiscent of a LIVesque magnitude – a staggering $18 million. This tournament gathers the crème de la crème, the top 30 players in the FedEx Cup standings, and what sets it apart is its unique format. There won’t be any eliminations, as all participants will complete the full duration of the competition.

For those unacquainted with this distinctive event, it employs a staggered start mechanism. Competitors will commence their rounds with a number of strokes under par determined by their respective points standings. While some sportsbooks might also provide odds without factoring in the staggered start, these odds are likely to be far from favorable.

This prestigious tournament will unfold at the East Lake Golf Club in Atlanta, the very same venue as the preceding year. This golf course, originally designed by Donald Ross, boasts an official yardage of 7346 and carries a par of 70, encompassing merely two par 5s.

The defining characteristic of this course is its exceptionally narrow fairways, ranking as the second narrowest on the entire tour. Accurate driving takes centre stage here, as the rough, though not excessively long, exacts a punitive toll. The juxtaposition of favorable lies from the zoysia fairways and the necessity to angle shots precisely into the greens makes this a challenging endeavor.

The accuracy of drives tends to plummet due to the constrained fairways, with a mere 58% accuracy rate recorded in 2022, and an average of 54.3% since 2015.

An intriguing aspect of the course is its remarkable putting ease, particularly for putts under 5 feet.

When it comes to approach statistics, one can anticipate a considerable number of long iron shots, with attempts ranging from 200 to 250 yards constituting nearly a quarter of all shots. This phenomenon can largely be attributed to the extended par 3 holes, averaging a substantial 205 yards.

In essence, this course is characterized by an abundance of pars – a scarcity of genuine scoring opportunities coupled with a lack of treacherous spots to run into trouble.

Our Picks:

Scottie Scheffler @6/4

These odds for golf seem low but Scheffler is a beast on this course, and has been on top form pretty much every week.

Each Way Picks:

Tommy Fleetwood @90/1

We back Tommy weekly and unfortunately there is more misses then hits but the end of the tour season lets hope for at least a well earned place.

Xander Schauffele @23/10

This does seem like a great spot for Xander, since his odds are halfway decent this week for an outright win. Been struggling around the greens recently but that’s not so important here.

Our each way picks are based on 5 places*

The Tour Championship is a golf tournament that is part of the PGA Tour. It has historically been one of the final events of the PGA Tour season; prior to 2007, its field consisted exclusively of the top 30 money leaders of the past PGA Tour season. Image Credit: pgatour.com
