Erin Blanchfield vs Manon Fiorot
Manon Fiorot: Manon is a southpaw striker with dynamic, powerful kicks and fast powerful hands. Manon is an elite striker, as a lifelong competitor in karate and muay thai. She has a very good bounce and dangerous lead leg. Manon abuses the lead leg of her opponents with sidekicks and skip rounds, sometimes throwing a high kick as well. Once the lead leg is respected, Manon goes to the body with her rear rd right kick. She throws lead leg sidekicks to the body when her opponents try to blitz and if they get past that she runs them into her check right hook. Manon is rangy at 5’7”, and that, plus her movement and bladed stance makes it very hard to get to her hips. Fiorot has good clinch ability as well and can hip toss from here if necessary. Manon has been cracked by Maia’s headkick getting up from a grappling exchange.
Blanchfield Blanchfield is a right-handed striker with elite grappling. Blanchfield pressures behind her high guard, and looks to find her takedown entries off of her opponents punches. Blanchfield has a very good top riding game, looking to control, damage, return to the mat, and advance position. Blanchfield is content to float and take her time in positions to pass before she looks for damage and submissions. Once Blanchfield feels that her position is solidified, she will look to posture up and damage.
Prediction: We think Manon does what she does to everyone, and pieces her up from the outside. Erin has shown vulnerability in getting hit on her way to her clinch takedowns, and we think she will take a lot of damage closing the distance to get there. I think she will have moments of success where she is able to take Manon down and control her, but we think Manon will be savvy enough to protect herself until the rounds end. Manon by very slight UD.
How Blanchfield could win if you want to back against Manon: We think Blanchfield definitely can submit Manon if she can get to her spots, and if not, at the very least control her. Also we think Blanchfield will have good opportunities to do so, but it depends on the damage she takes from Manon in the meantime and how she reacts to it. She may be able to take her best shots and walk through them to her connection and her takedown. Blanch by sub or UD.
