The Australian Open is a tennis tournament held annually at Melbourne Park in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. The tournament is the first of the four Grand Slam tennis events held each year, preceding the French Open, Wimbledon, and the US Open.

We will post daily picks through out the tournament, so be sure to check back daily.

Our Picks:

Casper Ruud vs Cameron Norrie

Pick: Norrie to win @11/5

Cameron Norrie has upped his gear since landing in Australia and he’s looking like the player we all know. He was a bit lucky against Giulio Zeppieri in the previous round but so was his opponent Caper Ruud in overcoming Max Purcell. This will go down to the wire and we’ll back the Brit to show enough resilience to get over the line.

Carlos Alcaraz vs Juncheng Shang

Pick: Alcaraz 3-0 @4/9

The World No. 2 has not been at his very best in the opening two matches, but that is not a major concern. In fact, it may actually be good that he does not peak too early. It has already been a great run for Shang and he can play with freedom. But he does not have the weapons to hurt Alcaraz.

Daniil Medvedev vs Felix Auger-Aliassime

Pick: Medvedev -5.5 @4/6

Incredibly, this will be the seventh meeting between the players, and the Russian has won every single one of them including a quarterfinal match here in 2022. Remarkably, all the previous matches have been on hardcourts so there’s no reason not to back Medvedev to nick a 7th consecutive win

Elina Svitolina vs Viktorija Golubic

Pick: Svitolina 2-0 @1/2

Golubic got an impressive victory against Katerina Siniakova in three sets. But I do not see a repeat of that against Svitolina. The Ukrainian is playing as well as she ever has, and has added more aggression to her consistency and athleticism. Expect her to have too much overall class for Golubic.

Qinwen Zheng vs Yafan Wang

Pick: Zheng 2-0 @4/6

This quarter has opened up so much and the favorite to pick up the pieces is Zheng. This used to be an issue for her in the past, but with how consistent she’s been recently (and how she handled a similar situation getting to the last eight at the US Open) you kind of have to trust that special talent has also arrived at a spot where she can deliver in opportunities like this mentally.

Victoria Azarenka vs Jelena Ostapenko

Pick: Ostapenko to win @8/11

They played a couple of weeks ago and it was a very fun matchup of two players with excellent return games. Azarenka won that one 7-5 in the 3rd and it should be pretty tight again. Despite claiming that one, the Belarusian had some issues covering the court against Ostapenko’s flat power. We should see another classic, but perhaps the scoreline will be reversed now?
