Rublev’s biggest weapon is his forehand which is a huge pace generator that can give some problems to a lot of players but that was never the case against his good friend Medvedev. He holds a 6-2 record against him and Rublev never won a set in the two hard court Grand Slam matches against Medvedev (US Open 2020 and Australian Open 2021 both in the quarterfinals)
There are no secrets on why this matchup is usually quite difficult for Rublev. He has a one dimensional power hitting playstyle and lacks variety so he can’t expose Medvedev’s deep defensive positioning. Rublev is also 0-8 in Grand Slam’s quarterfinals and we don’t think 9 will be his magic number
Our prediction is Medvedev winning this in 3 or 4 sets but this handicap can hit in a lot of different scenarios, since he should be the one who’s able to break his opponent more often. At this price, we see value in this line.
