We like the under line here, non of these teams have been hitting big numbers lately and were trying to keep it simple.
Reds -1.5 @6/4 vs Marlins
Ashcraft has been the reds best pitcher this season as he had a run of 6 straight appearances with 2ER or less. In his last appearance that steak was snapped as he allowed 3ER but actually went 8IP against WAS. The outing before that was one of his most impressive as he went 6IP with 0ER against the dodgers.
Atlanta Braves -1.5 @20/33 vs Pirates
We are feeling the Braves covering the spread today. It was tempting to go with over total runs, but with Max Fried on the mound this very well can be a 8-0 game (which is what happened last time he pitched). Max Fried is back off injury and looked great his first time back. 3 hits/8K’s in 6 innings, would have probably kept going if his team wasn’t up by 7 runs and he wasn’t on a pitch count being fresh off the IL. Meanwhile Pittsburgh’s starter is getting torched.
Cubs ML @5/6 vs Mets
These two teams are going in opposite directions right now. The Mets are truly terrible now that they’ve sold off any half decent pitching talent on the team. They’re throwing David Peterson out there tomorrow who has a 6.12 ERA as a starter and averages less than 5 IP per start this season. They’ve tried making Peterson a starter before and it always ends the same. This time they’re throwing him out there due to to a lack of alternatives. The offence has been dreadful as of late too. Despite all the big names in their lineup, The Mets are 27th in OPS since the all-star break at .681. The Cubs on the other hand are tied with the Braves for 1st in in OPS since the all-star break at .871. Kyle Hendricks starts for the Cubs and while he isn’t a world beater, he does have very respectable numbers. Notably he’s in the 98th percentile in walk-rate, 87th percentile in hard-hit rate and 95th percentile in exit velocity.
