The next event on the schedule is the Travelers Championship, which will take place at TPC River Highlands in Cromwell, CT, on the East Coast. This Pete Dye-designed course is a par 70, measuring approximately 6,849 yards, making it one of the shorter tracks on the tour. Throughout the years, we have witnessed different types and styles of players emerge victorious, resulting in varying winning scores. Given the elevated status of this event and the strong field, we anticipate a winning score in the range of 19-20 under par.

It’s important to note that scores will be low, so our focus will be on players who can keep up in a birdie-filled competition. We’ll be looking closely at Opportunities Gained and Birdies or Better Gained to identify those who excel in making the most of scoring opportunities. Additionally, with eight holes falling within the 400-450 yard range, we’ll consider Par 4 Scoring in that yardage bracket. Since a significant number of approaches to the greens will be made with wedges, we will prioritize Strokes Gained: Approach from the proximity of 100-150 yards. Winning at this event will require players to get hot with their wedges and putter, so we’ll factor in Strokes Gained: Putting as well. Lastly, TPC courses are known for favoring strong ball strikers, and TPC River Highlands is no exception. We believe this course offers a paradise for ball strikers, with plenty of birdie opportunities.

Course history tends to be more relevant at TPC River Highlands, according to Datagolf. Therefore, it’s worth paying attention to players who have performed well here in the past. Some notable names with strong course history include Brian Harman, Patrick Cantlay, Chez Reavie, Kevin Streelman, Xander Schauffele, Rory McIlroy, Jason Day, Kevin Kisner, Scott Stallings, and Keegan Bradley. While this may not necessarily help us identify a specific player style to target, it emphasizes the wide-open nature of this event.

Key Stats:

  • Strokes Gained: Ball Striking
  • Strokes Gained: Approach (with a focus on proximity of 100-150 yards)
  • Opportunities Gained
  • Birdies or Better Gained
  • Strokes Gained: Putting
