Day 9 Picks: – Women
Rybakina ML @2/5 vs Ostapenko
Rybakina is a tall and strong player. The serve is her main weapon, very difficult to return, and from the court he generally takes the initiative, hitting with a lot of force and confidence. Rybakina is very calm, very sure of herself, and on the court she manages her emotions very well. Here he played well, he even passed the favorite / world leader, Swiatek in two sets. Ostapenko is a very valuable and very chaotic athlete, anything is possible with her. Ostapenko takes a lot of risks, she is always very nervous and Rybakina can take advantage of these things to continue her way to the major in Australia.
Victoria Azarenka vs Jessica Pegula ML @4/11
The two-time champ Victoria Azarenka is looking good but it’s tough to see her landing a blow on Jessica Pegula even if she’s playing her best. The American is playing so well, it’s difficult to see anybody but the biggest hitters in the game causing her any problems. Azarenka’s middling serve will be returned with interest whilst the Belarusian’s own electric returns will be absorbed by Pegula’s great hands. We’d go as far as saying Jessica Pegula is the current favourite for the title.
Men’s:
Stefanos Tsitsipas vs Jiri Lehecka ML @9/2 – Dog of the Round
Tsitsipas seemed to be in such amazing form, but his fourth round against Sinner was far from convincing, especially with the two low-energy sets he played in the middle of it. Lehecka has been looking so complete this fortnight and should have a very decent matchup here, playing a bit like with Auger-Aliassime and taking time away from the Greek’s backhand. If he can stay as calm and collected as he’s been, this run doesn’t have to end.
Karen Khachanov vs Sebastian Korda ML @8/11
Neither have had an easy route to this stage. Both have only had two straight set matches to the quarter-final stage. Korda has had the more impressive wins though, having already dispatched Medvedev & Hurkacz who are both seeded higher. Khachanov will not have an easy ride here and the American will fight for the semifinal place.
