The Australian Open is a tennis tournament held annually at Melbourne Park in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. The tournament is the first of the four Grand Slam tennis events held each year, preceding the French Open, Wimbledon, and the US Open.

We will post daily picks through out the tournament, so be sure to check back daily.

Day 8 Picks: – Women

Magda Linette vs Caroline Garcia 2.0 @5/6

Linette has had a great tournament, with her win over Anett Kontaveit particularly impressive, but it is hard to see her getting past Caroline Garcia. The Frenchwoman has found what was once an elusive consistency and she is on song she is very hard to stop.

Karolina Pliskova ML @1/2 vs Zhang Shuai

Shuai Zhang is not in the best form but has taken full advantage of a favourable draw to reach the second week in Melbourne. That run will end now, as Karolina Pliskova’s powerful game is clicking on this court and will blow Zhang away.

Aryna Sabalenka ML @8/13 vs Belinda Bencic

Sabalenka has been in absolutely unstoppable form so far in Melbourne. Bencic is playing really well herself, but she doesn’t have anything to counter Sabalenka’s raw power. If the Belarusian continues to find the court, this is her match, possibly in straight sets.

Donna Vekic ML @4/9 vs Linda Fruhvirtova

What a match this is looking to be. Vekic is finally living up to her talent, while Fruhvirtova is in the midst of the first of what will surely be many deep runs at Majors. We’ll take experience over youth, at least this time.

Men’s:

Andrey Rublev vs Holger Rune ML @4/5

Both players seem to be in outstanding form and this should be a stunning match. Rune was a bit of a question mark going into the event in regards to whether he’ll be able to just carry on with his 2022 form. He’s done that and compared to Rublev, he’s got no exploitable weaknesses like the Russian’s second serve and backhand.

Alex de Minaur vs Novak Djokovic ML @1/5

Alex de Minaur has dropped just one set in three matches, Australian home slam hopes rest on his shoulders. He’ll face Djokovic, who has started the season without a loss and is truly back in business in Australia. de Minaur will need to back himself, but his odds of beating Djokovic honestly look quite low unless Djokovic is injured, de Minaur doesn’t have the game to threaten Djokovic under normal circumstances, as Djokovic should feast on his serve.

Ben Shelton ML @11/10 vs JJ Wolf

What an exciting, fresh matchup. Both players just blast the ball on their serves and forehands, but Wolf does it with his right hand, Shelton with his left. The younger of the two is the bigger prospect and despite lacking Grand Slam experience, he’s been handling the big stage incredibly well.

Roberto Bautista Agut vs Tommy Paul – Over 38.5 Games @5/6

This one feels very tough to predict. Bautista Agut is past his prime, especially when it comes to his physicality, and that could prove key after two extremely long battles. Paul is also the kind of opponent who could exploit that with his athleticism and consistency.
