AO Tennis
Grand Slam #1
The Australian Open is a tennis tournament held annually at Melbourne Park in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. The tournament is the first of the four Grand Slam tennis events held each year, preceding the French Open, Wimbledon, and the US Open.
We will post daily picks through out the tournament, so be sure to check back daily.
Day 7 Picks:
Rybakina ML @10/3 vs Iga Swiatek
Elena is exactly the type of player that will give Iga problems. Her serve has looked on point so far in the AO and is a huge weapon for her, helping her take down last year’s AO finalist Danielle Collins.
She won Wimbledon last year and won’t let the moment get to her. She’s also hungry because she feels like she hasn’t got the recognition from that Wimbledon win. She seemed upset having to play on a lesser court in the first round.
After they put her on one of the show courts for round two she demolished her opponent, and said something like ” may be they’ll put me on a better court for the first round next time.”
Coco Gauff vs Jelena Ostapenko – Over 20.5 Games @1/1
Is Jelena Ostapenko going to deliver? That’s a question that has always been incredibly tough to answer. If she’s feeling it, she’s definitely one of the players who can trouble Coco Gauff with the extreme pace she will direct at her forehand corner. Is she going to be consistent enough with it? The safe answer is no, but the Latvian should feel free to prove me otherwise.
Jessica Pegula ML @4/9 vs Barbora Krejcikova
Krejcikova is good enough to win this match, but she will need to play her very best tennis. Unfortunately for the Czech, it has been some time since she played at that level. Expect Pegula to prove too sharp for Krejcikova.
Stefanos Tsitsipas ML @4/9 vs Jannik Sinner
Tsitsipas is great in Australia. His game doesn’t seem overly special, but somehow it’s more effective in Melbourne than anywhere else. We’ll see if Sinner can blast through it, but based on his form so far were skeptical.
Yoshihito Nishioka vs Karen Khachanov To win and both players to win a set @5/4
Khachanov has been doing very well at the Slams recently and needless to say, this is a big opportunity for him. Nishioka is yet to drop a set and is usually a nightmare for power hitters, but someone as solid as Khachanov usually shouldn’t be bothered as much by his lefty spins. Could be a great one, but the Russian’s been really clutch.
Sebastian Korda ML @8/15 vs Hubert Hurkacz
Could this be the tournament where Sebastian Korda really announces himself. He’s never gone beyond the fourth round at a Major before, but he’s also probably never been playing this well before. When his game is in such good working order, it’s hard to see any real weaknesses and his strengths are readily apparent. Hubert Hurkacz is a very fine player, but his forehand can be targeted and Korda will surely do just that.
Felix Auger-Aliassime ML @1/4 vs Jiri Lehecka
Auger-Aliassime hasn’t been at his best for an entire match yet this event, but when he’s at his best he has been very effective. As long as he plays well, there’s nothing Lehecka can do.
