The Australian Open is a tennis tournament held annually at Melbourne Park in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. The tournament is the first of the four Grand Slam tennis events held each year, preceding the French Open, Wimbledon, and the US Open.

We will post daily picks through out the tournament, so be sure to check back daily.

Day 1 Picks:

Musetti -4.5 @5/6 vs Harris

Harris had an injury that kept him out of action since Roland Garros. He played his first match on the 2nd of January in Thailand. He also played his last match yesterday in Thailand losing 7-6, 6-2 to the 382. Player in the world, Arthur Cazaux. That shows me 2 things.

  1. He was trying to win because he either would have retired like Lestienne did last week to get some rest before the Aus. Open or he would have played a match with 20% but he got into a first set tb and lost to Cazaux who is a good Challenger player but that is all he is. A CHALLENGER player.

  2. He doesn’t care that much about this tournament as he wouldn’t have played a match 2 days before his match here.

We liked Harris, he was an uncomfortable player with a big serve and ability to hit winners. He could play with top players and give them a run for their money, especially big servers like Opelka who probably got shook every time he had to play against him as he would just blow him of the court. Saying that we watched his match against Tung-Lin and don’t see a man that played that match covering the 4.5 spread against Musetti.

Ernesto Escobedo +1.5 sets @4/5 vs Taro Daniel

Escobedo has been playing brilliantly in the qualifications, beating in straight sets players (Nardi, Kotov) who are way better than Daniel. The main issue about him is the lack of stamina to win the match, but winning 2 sets at these odds seems like a great value to me.

Siniakova vs Gauff  -2.5 Sets @11/10

I was one of the few people who thought that Coco Gauff was hyped quite a lot during 2022 and for me, that was one of the main reasons that stopped her from doing even better in the past year. She has one of the best 1st serves on the WTA tour and her backhand is probably the best one out there as well. Her forehand is probably her main weakness but she’s improving on that quite a lot. It seems that she’s ready to make a great campaign here in the Australian Open since she already won WTA Auckland last week without dropping a set displaying pure domination in all of her matches.

Sinner vs Edmund – Sinner win and both players to win a set @8/5

A re-match of a first round from Adelaide which ended in a straightforward 6-3 6-2 win for Sinner. Edmund lost in straight sets again in his next match so we expect Sinner to dispatch the Brit in this upcoming match.

Coric  ML @4/11 vs Lehecka

One of the matchups of the round. Lehecka is getting used to the tour and already looks more comfortable at the net than before the off-season. It should be a fun clash of styles but for now, a slight edge has to go to Coric who’ll bring a somewhat steady level in every set they play. The young Czech is way more erratic.

Bondar vs Bogdan ML @2/5

Anna Bondar and Ana Bogdan will square off for the second time, with Bogdan winning the first meeting in three sets. Bogdan had a strong second half of the 2022 season, holding a 21-8 record since July 25. We like the way her game is trending and believe the fast-moving hard courts help her.

Other Picks:

Nadel ML @4/11

Raducanu ML @1/6

Keys ML @1/4

Norrie vs Van Assche – Total sets 3 @4/7

Medvedev ML @1/20
