WDC 2023
PDC World Championships continues today, and its down to the home stretch en route to crowning the 2023 world champion. One thing of note, of the 32 remaining players, 29 of them are seeded (meaning top 32 in the world). A record for the world championships.

Dirk van Duijvenbode @4/7 vs Ross Smith
As we march on, we’re eyeing a battle for the opportunity to play tournament favorite Michael van Gerwen next round. We are on Dirk “The Aubergenius” van Duijvenbode to defeat Ross “Smudger” Smith. Locking in world #14 DVDB to get through World #19 Smith for a couple reasons.
Dirk (DVDB) is thirty years old, and has been a PDC tour card holder since 2011. He’s been knocking at the door of the top 10 for awhile now, and I assure you, none of the top-10 looks forward to playing this guy. He’s very loud and intense at the oche; displays signs of greatness, with occasional amateur mistakes. Big fan of his game, and expect he will deliver in this one.
Smudger Smith, age 31, has been somewhat of a journeyman over the last decade, but he’s really established himself as elite (top 25 in the world) over the past year. Smith played phenomenal in his previous round matchup, averaging a ton-plus (over 100) as he dispatched former quarterfinalist Labanauskas.
Van Duijvenbode had to dig deep in his previous match, going to extra legs versus an inspired Karel Sedlacek. Despite the sweat, this gives me a degree of confidence in Dirk when he’s up against it.
DVDB holds a head-to-head advantage over Smith; 2-0 over the past two years. Dirk also defeated Smith at this very tournament two years ago in a very similar spot, defeating Smudger en route to a final-8 loss to world #1 Gezzy Price.

The 2023 PDC World Darts Championship is the 30th World Championship organised by the Professional Darts Corporation since it separated from the British Darts Organisation. The event is taking place at the Alexandra Palace in London from 15 December 2022–3 January 2023.
