WDC 2023
PDC World Championships continues today, and its down to the home stretch en route to crowning the 2023 world champion. One thing of note, of the 32 remaining players, 29 of them are seeded (meaning top 32 in the world). A record for the world championships.
Game Of The Day –
Joe Cullen ML @10/11 vs Damon Heta
From Rocky yesterday to The Rockstar today, Were taking “The Rockstar” Joe Cullen to beat Damon “Heat” Heta. Anticipating another tight contest littered with critical moments in what could be another exciting sweat.
Cullen, the current world #13, dispatched Rapid Ricky Evans 3-1 in the previous round, averaging over 95 with a 42.3% checkout rate. It’ll certainly require similar stats to get through Heta, but Cullen has shown he is more than capable.
With the exception of the world championships, Cullen has reached a quarter final or better in every major darts tournament. He was also a single dart away from winning the Premier League final, missing a double and losing to MVG in one of the best matches of the year.
Cullen’s opponent, world #20 Damon Heta, had a similarly impressive performance in the previous round, defeating former world champion Adrian Lewis 3-0. In that match, Heta was on fire, averaging over 96 and going an impressive 9/16 (56.25%) on doubles.
Heta is certainly a beast at the occe, but we do not believe he can recreate the numbers he posted against Jackpot Lewis. In his three years on the PDC tour, Heta has reached three major quarter finals (UK Open; Grand Slam of Darts; Players Championship Finals). Solid finishes no doubt, but Heta mostly cuts his chops in the non-ranking and non-televised events.
As is often the case, this match is likely to boil down to checkout %. Cullen has shown consistency in this area in darts’ biggest events and we believe he possesses a slight edge over Heta in this area. Simply put, we think Cullen is straight up better than Heta, and quite like the odds here.
Gary Anderson ML @4/5 vs Chris Dobey
Gary is ranked 11th in the world, a two-time world champ and always good for some deep world championship runs, being the runner-up in 2021 and reaching the top 4 again in 2022. He is one of the all-time dart greats with 19 televised titles.
Chris Dobey is great too (ranked nr22 ), but not quite on Gary’s level. He normally goes out in round 3-4 in the world championships, and we believe this time will be no different. He has 0 televised titles so far.
3 darts average of 96 for Gary Anderson, and 86 for Chris Dobey in their last games in this championship, which is quite the difference.
Other Picks:
Danny Noppert – To win and most 180s @10/11 vs Ala Soutar
MVG – To win and highest checkout @4/11 vs Mensur Suljovic
Michael Smith Match treble @2/1 vs Martin Schindler
The 2023 PDC World Darts Championship is the 30th World Championship organised by the Professional Darts Corporation since it separated from the British Darts Organisation. The event is taking place at the Alexandra Palace in London from 15 December 2022–3 January 2023.
