Our next destination takes us to El Carmen in Mexico for the World Wide Technology Championship. Viktor Hovland, a two-time winner of this event, will be aiming to secure his third consecutive victory.

The course for this week’s tournament measures 7,039 yards, making it relatively short. It is known for being a birdie-friendly course, with the winning score over the past four years being -20 or better. Designed by Greg Norman, it showcases stunning scenery across various landscapes.

Opportunities to score abound on this course. There are three short par 3s measuring 116, 151, and 155 yards, along with several short and favorable par 4s. The par 5s appear reachable for the longer hitters, but we anticipate many players opting to lay up to their preferred yardage and then employing their wedges for approach shots. The par 5s still offer excellent scoring chances.

Penalty areas are scattered throughout the course, and certain holes demand carries over obstacles. The key to success here lies in hitting fairways, avoiding penalty areas, and strategically placing shots on the greens to create scoring opportunities.

Our primary focus will be on driving accuracy. By hitting well-placed tee shots, these professionals will be able to position themselves favorably for scoring. A wayward drive, on the other hand, could lead to significant trouble. We will also consider par 3 scoring, particularly on holes measuring around 550 yards, and analyze players’ performance on the par 5s.

Betting Picks:

  1. Hovland @9/1: It will be challenging to bet against Hovland, who has a strong track record at this course, including holding the record for the lowest 72-hole score. He has demonstrated his mastery of this venue.
  2. Scheffler @8/1: Scottie finished fourth here last year and will be motivated to reclaim the title of world number one with a victory. It is intriguing to observe where his odds have settled.
  3. Long @66/1: Adam Long has achieved two top-five finishes at this event and is expected to receive favorable odds in this competitive field.
  4. Day @33/1: Jason Day always merits consideration, despite his inconsistency. He has the ability to deliver outstanding performances when least expected.

The World Wide Technology Championship at Mayakoba is a professional golf tournament on the PGA Tour in Mexico, held at Playa del Carmen, south of Cancún. It debuted in February 2007 and was the first PGA Tour event in Mexico this century.
