PGA Tour Golf Tips
Date: Sept 15–18, 2022
Grayhawk Golf Club’s Raptor Course in Scottsdale, Arizona.
This week brings us to Silverado Golf Course, and just like last year, the field may not be the strongest, but we’re glad to have golf back after what feels like a long wait.
Course Review: Silverado is a relatively short course featuring four par 5s, with two that can be easily reached in two shots and the other two depending on the player’s strategy. Only one of the par 4s measures over 450 yards, so we can expect a lot of wedge shots into the greens. Given the course’s length, I’ll be paying attention to approach proximity from 100-125 yards. Missing the fairways doesn’t come with severe penalties, so long hitters can take advantage by cutting corners and being aggressive. Many fairway bunkers can be carried off the tee, making this a tournament where approach play and putting are likely to be crucial. Short game skills may also come into play when missing greens, so I’ll consider that when making my picks. Silverado has shown that a variety of player types can find success, so essentially, anyone could be in contention this weekend.
Key Stats: Strokes Gained: Approach, Approach proximity from 100-125 yards, Birdie Average, Par 5 scoring, Greens in Regulation percentage, Strokes Gained: Putting, Par 3 scoring from 175-200 yards, Strokes Gained: Short Game.
Player Target Profiles:
Bombers who can score: Players who are long off the tee and have a knack for making birdies should fare well here.
Accurate approach players who can putt: The course often places pins in challenging spots, so those who are accurate off the tee and excel in course management will have plenty of birdie opportunities.
