We have to favour Julianna over Amanda in the rematch and we picked Amanda the first time round. We picked Amanda over Julianna based on their performances on De Randamine and Shevchenko.
All of the previous female Bantamweight title holders(Ronda Rousey, Holly Holm and Miesha Tate) lost their next bout after losing their titles.
A very damning statistic is there has been 5 occasions that a female fighter (Miesha Tate, Ronda Rousey, Holly Holm, ,Joanna Jędrzejczyk & Zhang Weili) got a title fight coming from a loss. With the exception of Miesha, all just came from losing the title fight. The stat is 0-5 record.
Once a dominant champ loses it usually indicates a decline in his or her career. Julianna won the first fight despite almost eleven month layoff. More red flags for Amanda for leaving ATT(who’s responsible for her dominant reign from 2015 after Amanda left MMA Masters after the Cat Zingano fight ) and starting her own gym. Who’s going to be Amanda training partners over there that can grapple well offensively?
People said that Amanda leg kicks was effective in round one. We saw something different. Julianna actually checked most of Amanda leg kicks in the with the exception of the 1st.That to me showed underrated fight IQ. Even fighters like Cyborg struggled against Nunes because of her leg kick.

Amanda Nunes winning by decision. To us it’s 1 round or bust. 14/17 or (82%) of Amanda Nunes stoppage wins ends within round 1. Amanda does not want to get into a brawl against Julianna. If Amanda gets sucked into a brawl she will gas out due to the pace Julianna sets. It can open takedown opportunities for Pena.
Amanda Nunes has never stopped a fight past round 2.
Julianna Pena has 4/8 (50%) stoppage wins end in round 1.Pena can even end the fight past round 2 like she did with Sara McMann.
Amanda needs to be more unpredictable in her kickboxing attacks. Use the teep kick like she did against Ronda. Set up her wheel kicks by boxing Julianna’s stomach.
Julianna will press the action to grapple when she knows she can tire Amanda out. Amanda usually gets submission wins by hurting her opponents on the striking exchanges and by rear naked choke or more recently armbar triangle.
Julianna Pena and Amanda Nunes are not much different in age. Amanda is 34 and Julianna will be 33 in less than 1 month.
