The 90th 24 Hours of Le Mans will be an automobile ultimate endurance event that will take place on 11–12 June 2022 at the Circuit de la Sarthe, Le Mans, France. It will be the 90th running of the 24 Hour race organised by the Automobile Club de l’Ouest.

Brendon Hartley fought off Kamui Kobayashi to put his name on Toyota’s sixth successive Le Mans 24 Hours pole – albeit the Japanese marque was run close by Alpine.

Nicolas Lapierre, running in the Alpine entry, recorded a 3m24.850s to lift himself ahead of both the Toyotas, and both of them then caught up traffic in the form of the #92 Porsche of Laurens Vanthoor while trying to hit back.

Despite this, Kobayashi was nearly three tenths faster than Lapierre but his time was deleted for track limits.

Hyper-pole Run Off: Explained

Most of the starting positions for the 90th 24 Hours of Le Mans will be decided in Wednesday’s qualifiers (19:00 to 20:00). However, the fastest 23 of the 62 teams entered will have a run-off in the Hyperpole session.

Introduced in 2020 to give teams a chance to demonstrate pure speed, the Hyperpole session is for the first six qualifiers in each class only. The outcome determines the top six places in each class on the starting grid. However, as there are five Hypercar entries, 23 cars will compete in Hyperpole, not 24.
