The French Open, also known as Roland-Garros, is a major tennis tournament held over two weeks at the Stade Roland Garros in Paris, France, beginning in late May each year. The tournament and venue are named after the French aviator Roland Garros.

Main Picks:

Ben Shelton vs Felix Auger-Aliassime

Shelton ML @13/10

Ben Shelton has worked hard to develop his game on the clay, a task made easier by the solid fundamentals of a booming serve and big whippy forehand. Felix Auger-Aliassime possesses similar gifts, though his serve and groundstrokes are not quite as penetrating as Shelton’s. He does have the advantage of experience, but the American is playing with more conviction and should have the beating of his rival from the Great White North.

Andrey Rublev vs Matteo Arnaldi

Rublev 3-0 @5/4

It’s been a great week for Matteo Arnaldi but his run will surely come to an end here. Andrey Rublev still probably lacks the “x-factor” to get the better of the very best in the business, but beating Arnaldi should be achievable for the sixth seed.

Sebastian Ofner vs Corentin Moutet

Moutet ML @4/11

What a chance this is for both men to reach the second week at a Major, with Corentin Moutet having the added advantage of playing on home turf. As one of only a few Frenchmen still in contention after a disappointing tournament so far for the hosts, the crowd will no doubt back him to the hilt and he may well be able to use that to his advantage against a weary Ofner.

Carlos Alcaraz vs Sebastian Korda

Alcaraz 3-0 @5/6

Sebastian Korda has a decent record at the French Open, reaching the fourth round back in 2020. But it is hard to see him returning to the second week this year, despite a sharp start in Paris. Carlos Alcaraz looks like he will take some beating this fortnight and whilst Jannik Sinner and Novak Djokovic may be able to halt his charge, Korda is not of that caliber.

Liudmila Samsonova vs Elisabetta Cocciaretto

Samsonova 2-0 @11/10

When Samsonova’s on, she’s on. The level so far has been mind-boggling and, though Cocciaretto can normally put plenty of balls in the court, the Russian won’t have many problems finishing the point off in two swings of the racket.

Leylah Fernandez vs Ons Jabeur

Jabeur ML @4/6

An interesting match-up that promises plenty of fascinating rallies. Though it might be close, Jabeur feels like the slight favorite as her tricky game might unstick the usual counter-punching game style of the Canadian.

Anastasia Potapova vs Xinyu Wang

Potapova ML @4/9

Wang’s had some tough matches against players that haven’t been in the best of form whilst Potapova’s taken care of business tidily. Like her previous opponents, Potapova’s huge hitting should be too much for the Chinese.
