Main Picks:
After a lot of suspended play yesterday its a catch up from day 4 but we will add a couple of picks –
Gael Monfils vs Lorenzo Musetti
Musetti -3.5 @8/11
Monfils might have had a dreadful clay season, but he finally played something in front of the home crowd in Paris. Its magic can be a powerful weapon and Musetti will need to be cautious, especially with his own dirt swing being so up and down. But the Italian usually delivers here too and is the better player at the moment.
Alexander Zverev vs David Goffin
Zverev 3-0 @1/2
Goffin took out Lyon champion Mpetshi Perricard in round one and seemingly took out a lot of excitement out of this match too. The former Top 10 player has been a shadow of his prime self for a couple of years now and it’s just tough to see how he beats Zverev at the moment. It’s also simply not a good matchup, never has been.
Alex de Minaur vs Jaume Munar
Over 36.5 games @5/6
de Minaur lost just three games against Michelsen in the opening round, which was probably more of a reflection of the young American looking completely lost on clay. His edge against Munar on this surface seems completely marginal and with de Minaur’s attacking arsenal being a bit neutralized on clay, you just know this will be a very physical affair as well.
Elina Svitolina vs Diane Parry
Svitolina 2-0 @10/11
Parry is a very good clay-court player but this is a tough matchup for her. The Frenchwoman relies heavily on winning the battle of the forehands in her matches. That is hard to do against Svitolina, whose forehand is also one of the best in the women’s game.
Daria Kasatkina vs Peyton Stearns
Kasatkina 2-0 @11/10
Stearns won an amazing and long battle in the previous round. Even with a day between matches, playing someone like Kasatkina after that is not an ideal matchup. The Russian is one of the best in the sport at extending the rallies on clay and will be confident of wearing the American down.
Elise Mertens vs Petra Martic
Mertens ML @2/5
It is difficult to see how Martic finds a way through Mertens in this matchup. The Belgian’s game is more complete and at her best she does everything better than Martic on clay. Her solid game should take her into the next round.
