The French Open, also known as Roland-Garros, is a major tennis tournament held over two weeks at the Stade Roland Garros in Paris, France, beginning in late May each year. The tournament and venue are named after the French aviator Roland Garros.

Main Picks:

Alex de Minaur vs Alex Michelsen

Minaur 3-0 @4/5

Despite his excellent court coverage, Alex de Minaur simply does not have the weight of shot to mix it with the best of them on the clay. But he should be able to outlast or outmaneuver Alex Michelsen in their baseline exchanges regularly enough to book his spot in the second round.

Jaume Munar vs Roberto Bautista Agut

Munar ML @8/11

Long rallies are set to be the order of the day here. But unlike many of his compatriots, Roberto Bautista Agut has always been more at home on faster surfaces rather than the European clay. Against a younger opponent at his best on the clay in Jaume Munar, this looks like a big ask for the veteran.

Adrian Mannarino vs Giulio Zeppieri

Zeppieri ML @1/4

Adrian Mannarino hasn’t just been losing matches over the last few weeks, he’s been losing them badly. In fact, the closest he has come to winning a set, nevermind a match, was forcing a tiebreak in the first round in Lyon. That does not inspire much confidence in his chances against Giulio Zeppieri.

Holger Rune vs Dan Evans

Over 31.5 Games @4/5

Rune’s struggles this year have been well publicised. The Dane may feel like he is in a crisis if Evans beats him. The Briton is least effective on clay. Rune, despite his difficult year, should be able to exploit his one-handed backhand.

Alexander Bublik vs Gregoire Barrere

Barrere ML @1/1

Bublik’s natural ability is higher than Barrere, even on his least favorite surface. Yet, were going for an upset here. Barrere is rigidly consistent at his best and has the potential to stifle Bublik’s ultra-aggressive style on clay. Bublik often has an unexpected poor performance in him at the start of tournaments as well.

Mayar Sherif vs Yue Yuan

Sherif ML @1/4

Yuan beat Sherif last month in Rouen. However, the Egyptian was playing one of her first matches since returning from injury. Sherif’s level is much higher now. She reached the final in Morocco heading this event. Her best level on clay is better than Yuan’s, who is more comfortable on hard courts. The Egyptian is the favorite to get her revenge here.

Zeynep Sonmez vs Emma Navarro

Navarro 2-0 @2/5

Navarro is capable of making a major breakthrough at the French Open, with her game best suited to clay. The quickly improving American is not a great draw for Sonmez. Navarro’s heavy forehand and consistency should see her sail into the next round.

Madison Keys vs Renata Zarazua

Keys 2-0 @2/5

Keys is one of the most in-form players on clay, winning the title in Strasbourg heading into the second Grand Slam of the year. In fact, only Iga Swiatek has beaten her on the dirt so far this season. All signs point to the American winning again against Zarazua, who is a capable player but is not good enough to stop Keys at her current level.
