The Australian Open is a tennis tournament held annually at Melbourne Park in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. The tournament is the first of the four Grand Slam tennis events held each year, preceding the French Open, Wimbledon, and the US Open.

We will post daily picks through out the tournament, so be sure to check back daily.

Our Picks:

Alexander Bublik vs Sumit Nagal

Picks: Bublik -6.5 @1/1

The Indian did a great job to qualify, winning all his matches in straight sets, but Bublik is another level to anyone he played last week. As long as Bublik doesn’t implode, his serve and forehand should make easy work of his first round encounter.

Mackenzie McDonald vs Juncheng Shang

Pick: Shang 3-1 @10/3

McDonald hasn’t been in great form with most of his recent wins coming against other players in similar slumps. Though McDonald scored a win against Shang in September, Shang’s semifinal run in Hong Kong showed just how far the Chinese could go up the rankings.

Casper Ruud vs Albert Ramos-Vinolas

Pick: Ruud 3-0 @2/5

For all of Ruud’s hardships last year, he played indisputably well to start the year at the United Cup. The last time Ramos-Vinolas won a match on a hard court against a top 50 player was two years ago with eight losses coming in that time. 2022’s US Open finalist should be fine here.

Jelena Ostapenko vs Kimberly Birrell

Pick: Over 19.5 Games @10/11

Trust in Ostapenko at your peril. We’ll back a slow start for the champion in Adelaide but we still think her highs are just a touch too high for Birrell to handle.

Victoria Azarenka vs Camila Giorgi

Pick: Azarenka 2-0 @5/6

Last year’s semifinalist shouldn’t go under the radar. Whilst 2023 wasn’t the best year for her, that result suggests just how comfortable she is in Melbourne. Giorgi has hit a bit of a rough patch so we trust the Belarusian to come through this one.

Tommy Paul vs Gregoire Barrere

Pick: Paul 3-0 @5/6

A year ago Paul made the semis here, it’s hard to see it happening again but it’s also hard to imagine him going home in the first round. The world #14 will have far too much for the Frenchman.

Grigor Dimitrov vs Marton Fucsovics

Pick: Dimitrov ML @1/6

The Bulgarian is coming off his first title since 2017 just a week or so ago and not only that, he’s also playing his best tennis since then. Add to that the Hungarian has only won back-to-back main tour matches twice since July last year, it’s hard to see anything even close to an upset happening here.
